When we created our trip page, Uruguay and the Amazon, we were planning to cruise the Amazon from its mouth up to Manaus, Brazil and back on a large cruise ship. We have had to pivot, and have cancelled that cruise and have now rebooked on the Iberostar Grand Amazon Expedition. She is a smaller expedition ship carrying a maximum of 144 passengers, and sails two tributaries of the Amazon upstream of Manaus.
Despite being a city of over 2,000,000 people, Manaus is not connected by road to the rest of Brazil in any practical manner so we’ll be flying there to start this cruise!
