We’re not obsessed with the idea of visiting every country in the world (well…maybe a little); we’d rather spend some time in every country that we reach and gain some appreciation for what it’s really like in person. We’ve never just crossed a border to get a passport stamp. (Actually, we did almost by accident one time on a bus from San Salvador, El Savador to Managua, Nicaragua. We didn’t realize that the Pan-American Highway cuts across ~100 km of Honduras en route and we entered and left Honduras in the middle of the night. We’ve since returned to Honduras for a proper visit!) However, we really like visit new places, and it’s kind of fun to keep track when we reach a new country. You can see the countries that we’ve visited in the list below, or on our Tripadvisor Travel Map.

The Second 100
Years ago, when we had only visited a couple of dozen countries, 100 countries seemed like a huge number. But in March, 2018, we reached our goal! Then what? We can’t visit another 100 countries (because there aren’t 100 more). Our solution? Well, we have two:
- We’ll keep going! We haven’t run out of interesting places to visit and it doesn’t look like we’re going to anytime soon. We’re keeping the website name, but the counter will be over 100 and we’ll just see how far we get as long as our health and wealth allow.
- We’ll go around again! We’ve started a list of places that we have visited two or more times. Not sure that we’ll get back to all of them, but we can try.
We like going back to countries that we’ve visited in the past in order to see a new area. Huge countries like France or Indonesia are worth a repeat visit since it would be nearly impossible to see much of the country in one trip. And sometimes simply returning to a city but staying in a different neighbourhood gives a whole new perspective. We’ve done this in Paris, Singapore, Bangkok, and more and have always been amazed that different cultures (and sometimes even different languages) can be found just a few metro stops apart. Below you can check out our “Second 100” for counties that we’ve visited two or more times.
