While in County Kerry, we paid a visit to the Kissane Sheep Farm to watch a demonstration of the sheep herding skills of Irish border collies. These amazing dogs can be trained to obey commands by voice or whistle to do some fantastic work on sheep farms. Fully trained dogs are worth thousands of euros to help on farms and to compete in herding competitions. Just watch the video below of a team of dogs from Atlantic Sheepdogs (in County Sligo) herd sheep into the shape of an Irish shamrock!

The dogs that we saw at Kissane Sheep farm are trained to work in the mountains. Watch them on YouTube:
And just to prove that it does indeed take years to fully train these dogs, check out this amusing video of Echo, a young pup just beginning her training. Not quite ready to do any herding just yet!
