On April 30th, we jumped on a plane and headed off to London Heathrow to spend 2-1/2 weeks in England and the Republic of Ireland.
Upon arriving in mid-afternoon the following day, we did not immediately head for London as most people probably do, but rather took an Uber to the small market town of Salisbury for jet lag recovery, pub food, and the relaxed pace of English country life. Salisbury is famous for several things including a huge English Gothic cathedral with the tallest spire in the country and the best preserved copy of the Magna Carta in existence. But its chief claim to fame is that it’s the closest city to Stonehenge, our prime target for our visit to Wiltshire county, It was raining lightly, we needed a nap, and we wanted a meal in a nice warm pub, so did not head off to Stonehenge right away; we saved that highlight for another day. However, on our way back from the pub we could feel the excitement beginning to build as we passed a confectioner’s shop window proudly displaying a scale model of the UNESCO listed, ancient rings of stones….. Fudgehenge!
Watch for new posts soon about our visit to the full size Stonehenge and other sights in England and Ireland.
