Arrived by train from Barcelona via Nimes and headed into Arles old town. Gorgeous cobbled streets lined with cafes and small shops. So nice to be back in France after 10 years.
Checked into our stylish apartment that was right beside the ancient Roman Arena. Once the venue for gladiator fights and gory spectacles, it now hosts gory bull fights. Fabulous view of the Roman amphitheatre from our window and upstairs patio.
Over a couple of days in Arles we saw several Roman ruins (the amphitheatre, theatre, cryptoporticos and the baths) And some VanGogh sites including the hospital where he was treated for he infamous ear incident and locations of several of his most famous paintings.
Also enjoyed fabulous seafood and the wines of Provence!
