Camel racing is a huge sport everywhere in Arabia, and nowhere more so than in Qatar. We visited the enormous racing complex at Al Shahaniya outside Doha and watched them training the racing camels. Here’s a short YouTube video of first a gentle training run with human jockeys, and then an all out race with the robot jockeys that are used in the actual races. In the last half of the video, listen for the owners and trainers racing along beside their camels in SUVs honking, shouting, and banging on the sides of their vehicles to encourage their favourites. And someone in each car also uses the remote controlled whip!
