Great free walking tour of Kathmandu with Shiva from Himkala Adventure. Started at the Garden of Dreams then wandered through Thamel visiting several temples and shrines around Thahity. After visiting Katheswoyambhu and Bangemudha, we headed for the local market areas of Asan and Indrachowk: visiting the glass beads shops. From the northern gate of Durbar Square we descended toward the fetid Bagmati River through a typical Newari residential area named Yatkha. Next a 45 minute, hot hike up to Swayambhunath, the famous monkey temple. Taxi back to Durbar for lunch then off to the the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and the cremation ghats on the banks of the sacred (but still fetid) Bagmati River. Hiked to another nearby famous stupa, Bodhnath, for the sunset then back to Thamel for dinner.
