Oceania Sirena with map

We have our first trip of 2027 booked! We’ll be sailing on the Oceania Sirena from Cape Town, South Africa all the way to Lisbon, Portugal, a voyage of almost 10,000 km.

As we said in our first post for this trip, we are NOT usually cruise types, but this itinerary is just too good to pass up. We will visit 10 countries along the entire west coast of Africa (and then the Iberian Peninsula) and visit places that it would take us several trips and months of travel to see by land. Highlights that we plan to see include UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Ghana and Senegal, and a voodoo ceremony in Togo.

Of course the downside of visiting countries from a cruise ship is that visiting time is a few hours rather than days or weeks, but we see that as an opportunity to choose places to which we might return some day. Sometimes we just never know when we’ll revisit a country; on this cruise we’ll return to Namibia which we thought that we’d explored pretty thoroughly in 2024. However there is always something new to see or do! Last time that we were in Walvis Bay, Namibia we had to choose between kayaking with seals (which we did) and a 4×4 tour of the dunes (which we’ll now get to do on this trip).
