In less than a week we head off to Japan. Friends who had recently visited Tokyo told us about their tour to see a sumo wrestling practice, so we decided to check out attending a practice. But to our surprise, we’ll be in Tokyo for one of the six Grand Sumo Tournaments held around Japan each year. We managed to snag a couple of tickets and will visit the premier sumo venue in Tokyo, Ryōgoku Kokugikan (Japanese: 両国国技館; also known as Ryōgoku Sumo Hall or Kokugikan Arena).
Stay tuned for pictures from the actual event, and hopefully videos too if we’re allowed to record the bouts. We might be too far away to see much though. As you can see from the feature image, tickets sold out for the entire week with hours, and we were lucky to grab a couple of the last few, very high up in the last few rows!
